At the Michigan Mineralogical Society (hereinafter identified as “MMS”), privacy and confidentiality of user information are important. We are committed to maintaining the privacy and security of your user information. We may update this policy from time to time, so please check back in the near future. We take the utmost care to ensure that the personal information we obtain from you is not used in a way that you may be unaware of or not agreeable to. You may wish to submit an information request about our Club or participate in one of our events. In response, we may ask for information such as your name and postal address. In the event you opt to provide us with this information, we will only use it for the purpose specified by you in the communications.

 

Information Collected on the Site May be Used to:

•  Register you as a club member

•  Plan and purchase accommodations

•  Help you purchase tickets to our Annual Show

•  Send marketing communications or surveys to you

•  Respond to your questions or suggestions

•  Improve the quality of your visit to our site
 

All forms that allow you to participate in MMS events and future online communications will only be used by MMS and its members for specific club events. In deciding whether or not to join MMS, please note that they are only used for Club purposes or in joint promotions with an MMS Club partner. We do not sell, rent or share any of your personal information with any other party including any third-party joint promoters, nor use it for unapproved commercial purposes.

 

 

3.  Removal from MMS Communications

You may request to be removed from our internal lists at any time. All removal requests from any MMS communications will be handled as quickly as possible.

 

 

4.  How Do We Collect Information

We collect information that you provide us voluntarily. For example, we collect the Personal Information you provide us when you register for membership; when you contact us; when you place purchases or when you submit or upload such Personal Information to register for any club events.

 

 

5.  Where Do We Store any Information We Collect

Any information that is given to us through your consent or any information filled out on any MMS forms is only kept within the confines of this site and within the operating procedures of the MMS club organization. Any third party partnerships we maintain will also be held to the standard of not releasing or selling any data of any type to any other parties at the time of contractual partnership. We will make it known if your information is being passed to any partnerships or relationships outside of the MMS organization. We will ask any third party that may have personal information to destroy all gathered data at the termination of the partnership or project they were involved with.

 

 

6.  Sharing Your Personal Information

MMS does not share your personal information with any other outside entities. The only exception would be with a limited use third party specifically to perform a specific task for our club. Any third party would be under a strict agreement that your personal data cannot be shared beyond the scope of the task we contracted them to perform and we would make it known to you at the time of the transaction of the movement of your personal information. 

 

Our website is hosted and built with Wix.com's tools and they are our service provider in regards to hosting the content of the MMS website. We have not authorized Wix.com to keep or share any personal information with any third-party entity.

 

However, from Wix's Privacy Statement:

For such purposes, Wix serves and shall be considered as a “Processor” and not as the “Controller” (as both such capitalized terms are defined in the European Union General Data Protection Regulation) of such Users-of-Users Information. If you use the Contact form on the "Contact Us" page, your information in regards to email and any other personal information you may add is only shared with the administrators of this website. If the MMS administrators feel that any requests through the contact form communications need to be shared with other MMS board members, presenters, subject matter experts, or club members in good standing; they may do so in order to facilitate the best response.

 

7.  Exceptions to the Privacy Policy

Our Club has two exceptions to these limits on the use of personal information:

 

• MMS may monitor and, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required, disclose information to protect the security, property, assets and/or rights of our club from unauthorized use, or misuse, of the Site or anything found at the Site.
 

• MMS may disclose information when required by law; however, only to the extent necessary and in a manner that seeks to maintain the privacy of any individual(s).
 

 

8.  Links Provided To Other Sites

MMS provides links to a number of other websites that we believe might offer you useful information and services. However, those sites may not follow the same privacy policies as MMS. Therefore, we are not responsible for the privacy policies or the actions of any third parties, including without limitation, any web site owners whose sites may be reached through this Site, nor can we control the activities of those websites. We urge you to contact the relevant parties controlling these sites or accessing their on-line policies for the relevant information about their data collection practices before submitting any personal information or other sensitive data.

The use of this site signifies consent, as well as the consent of any organization whose information you submit (if any), to MMS, including the collection and use of information by MMS, as described in this statement. It also signifies agreement to the terms of use for this site. Continued access and use of this site without acceptance of the terms of this Privacy Policy relieves MMS from responsibility to the user.
